If you were planning a vacation with your kids, there is no need to look any further than spending it right here in beautiful Vermont. So let’s get right down to business. If you asked your kids where they would rather spend some time: The Shelburne Museum of art, or the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory, what answer do you think you will get?
So cram the crew into the car and get on over to Waterbury where you will find out everything you ever wanted to know, and more, about the history of Ben & Jerry’s and the art of making their fabulous cold confection. The guided tour takes about 30 minutes, and while the tickets are reasonably priced at $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and kids 12 and younger go free, tickets are sold only on a first-come, first-served, basis, so get there early.
So what’s all this you have been hearing about the Shelburne Museum? Located along Lake Champlain just south of Burlington, the museum houses a wonderfully eclectic collection of fine art and Americana in the country. With over 150,000 pieces on display across 38 exhibition buildings it is hard to imagine this museum not having something to please everyone. Take your pick of impressionist paintings, folk art, quilts and textiles, furniture, American paintings, and a huge assortment of artifacts from the 17th through 20th centuries. The Shelburne is open in the winter from January 1 through April 30, 2015, Wednesday through Sunday, 10am to 5pm. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5-17, and children under 5 go free.
Bromley Mountain is a great ski resort perfect for kids in Peru, in south-central Vermont. There are nine lifts, 46 trails and 300 ski-able areas. The Mighty Moose program offers daycare/skiing for young ones as little as three years old. There is ample lodging, dining and other recreational facilities close by to make this a wonderful choice for combining skiing with kids fun.
So drop everything and pay Vermont a visit; there is so much to do.
